Barndoor Strategy client, ACT The App Association, is the voice of SME Tech firms in the UK.
So, UK Country Director Stephen Tulip was delighted to have the opportunity to speak at today’s PICTFOR Reception in Parliament in a room full of MPs, Peers, and Tech stakeholders.
The App Association co-sponsored the reception with the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy, and Stephen joined their Director, Gina Neff, on stage along with PICTFOR Co-Chair Samantha Niblett MP, Baroness Jones, Minister for the Future Digital Economy and Online Safety at DSIT, Conservative Shadow DSIT Secretary Saqib Bhatti MP, and Lib Dem spokesperson Victoria Collins MP.
All spoke constructively about the future of tech policy in the UK, and it was clear that there is much cross-party agreement on the need to get tech policy and regulation right, which bodes extremely well for the future of the sector and the role the The App Association will be playing in that.
On the morning of this reception, The App Association also held a detailed briefing session on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) in the House of Lords. Lord Clement-Jones hosted the session and there was an excellent turnout from MPs, Peers, and staff from across the house. SEPs can be viewed as a niche issue, but it is critical to many Tech SMEs, so it is fantastic to see our careful engagement work bearing fruit and a strong cohort of Parliamentarians not only expressing interest in the topic but are keen to work with us to get the laws and regulations around SEPs right.
