Barndoor success as Curriculum and Assessment Review delivers Financial Education in Primary Schools

Barndoor Strategy client GoHenry will certainly ‘remember, remember the 5th November’ for quite some time after today’s momentous news that financial education will be included in the National Curriculum at both Primary and Secondary School level.

The recommendations made by the independent panel tasked with overhauling the National Curriculum and immediately endorsed by the Government will see financial education embedded into a souped-up Citizenship curriculum that will be mandatory in all primary and secondary schools.

The announcement is the culmination of almost five years of campaign that Barndoor Strategy has undertaken alongside GoHenry and working with a wide range of stakeholders across the education and financial services sector.

Just some of the activities this campaign has seen includes submitting extensive written evidence to the Curriculum and Assessment Review, hosting panel members for a Parliamentary roundtable, giving written and oral evidence to the Education Select Committee, hosting a range of events in Westminster and 10 Downing Street, successfully delivering a petition on financial education to 10 Downing Street, and undertaking various research and economic studies to help make the case.

Commenting on the news today, Barndoor Strategy Managing Director, David Spencer, said:

“Together with GoHenry we have put a huge amount of work into this campaign, so it is fantastic to see it deliver such a comprehensive success. We build a broad coalition of supporters and made an overwhelmingly strong argument, but until the Government is on-board you never know whether it is enough. This is a day for celebration, but there is more hard work to come as the new Curriculum is drafted to make sure it delivers the comprehensive financial education programme that young people need.”
