Mark Watts

Mark Watts specialises in maritime, energy and industrial decarbonisation.  He has more than 30 years’ experience operating at the intersection of international policymaking, regulatory strategy and stakeholder engagement.

He provides strategic advisory support to organisations across the maritime, transport, energy and sustainability sectors. His work focuses particularly on the regulatory and strategic challenges surrounding industrial transition, emerging technologies and climate strategy.

An economist by training and former Member of the European Parliament, Mark served for ten years in the European Parliament, including as a member of the Transport and Tourism (TRAN) Committee. Since leaving Parliament, he has advised leading international companies, trade associations and organisations on EU and international strategy, political positioning and institutional engagement.

Mark has extensive experience supporting organisations involved in maritime decarbonisation, infrastructure, sustainability regulation and emerging energy pathways. He is particularly experienced in helping organisations translate technically complex issues into clear and credible engagement strategies capable of navigating fast-evolving international debates.

In addition to his advisory work, Mark is regularly invited to moderate international conferences, industry panels and stakeholder dialogues across the maritime, transport and energy sectors, where he is known for bringing clarity, calm authority and strategic perspective to complex discussions.  Most recently, he moderated two panels today at – the annual @Global Maritime Decarbonisation Summit, on International Maritime Organization and EU regulatory developments.

Mark is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), and a member of the Editorial Board of Green Mobility Magazine. He holds both a BSc and MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
